Sustainability in Parking

Mr. Warshauer’s latest endeavor has been the development of the earth-friendlySM parking model, combining efficient and convenient parking options with sustainable practices. This model is embodied in the recently opened Greenway Self Park in Chicago, a development that reflects consumer interest in environmental responsibility. Its green features include the use of grey water cisterns to recycle rainwater, locally sourced sustainable building materials, electric-car charging stations, power generating vertical wind turbines, a green roof, discounts for hybrid electric cars, and tips for greener living in each elevator lobby.

In order to maximize its impact, the facility has also established a partnership with Chicago Gateway Green, a local nonprofit dedicated to greening public spaces throughout the city. The organization’s focus on planting trees near major traffic arteries throughout the city make it a perfect match for Greenway Self Park, which encourages its customers to donate $1 with each transaction toward Chicago Gateway Green’s local air quality initiatives.

The facility exemplifies the popularity and impact of sustainable parking structures. As consumers become increasingly aware of the environmental impact of their daily practices, demand for the earth friendlySM parking model is expected to grow substantially.
